In this composition the foreground is enclosed by an dark, ancient wood. From there the labourer follows a track towards a village in the distance where the composition opens up and a Winter sun sets. Sutherland creates a sensitive, pastoral narrative with conveys man's long history with our environment, its continuation to the present day and a sense of it reaching out into the future. 5.5x7.25 inches.
