Sir David Young CAMERON R.S.A. R.E. (1865-1945)

Cameron first established his reputation as an etcher but gradually turned to making paintings and watercolours of the Scottish landscape. These views of Mull and the Western Highlands are typical of his use of simple, decisive lines and restrained washes to evoke the changing light, weather and monumental character of the Scottish landscape.

Sir George CLAUSEN R.A. R.W.S. (1852-1944)

Clausen trained both in London, at the South Kensington Schools, and under Bouguereau at the Academie Julian in Paris. Consequently, French painting had an enormous impact on him; first Naturalism (from where he learnt to paint humble subjects) and subsequently, Impressionism. He was the British painter of light par excellence. These works demonstrate he was equally skilled working on paper as he was on canvas.

Thomas ROWLANDSON (1756-1827)

These prints were made by Rowlandson at the height of his artistic powers. They include two famous Pairs and the rare complete Set of his Cries of London. All come from a private collection of Rowlandson prints, built over many years.

ENID MARX (1902-1998)

Enid Marx was a versatile artist and designer, working across printmaking, book illustration, textiles and pattern design. She was apprenticed to Barron and Larcher in the 1920s and made fabrics for London Transport. These linocuts were completed in 1979 but not published until 2000 as ‘Marco’s Animal Alphabet’ (Incline Press). The bold designs, patterns and vigorous working into the lino are distinctive of her graphic imagination.

HOW ‘THE LIST’ WORKS

Our Lists introduce about 100 works to our large stock of oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints each month.

Most works can be bought online via our ecomm platform, but using this is not mandatory! If you would like to enquire about a work, please email or send a message using the ‘Enquire’ button that appears when you click on an item. We try and treat enquiries about List pictures in strict order of receipt. Given the numerous methods of communications people tend to use nowadays, there will inevitably be times when technological overlaps muddy the system. But we try to be fair!

Please do call if you would prefer to talk to us about anything you see on the website, but we strongly advise sending an email first; we are happy to hold works for a short time while they are being considered, or to give time for you to make a visit.
