Wilkie R.A., Sir David (1785 – 1841) – Study for ‘Blind Man’s Bluff’ (Royal Collection, 1812/1813).

Wilkie's famous oil for which this is a study (Royal Collection), was commissioned by the Prince Regent as a companion to Edward Bird's (1772-1819) 'Country Choristers'. Wilkie was paid the enormous sum of £500 guineas for the work, reflecting both the popularity of his own work and the vogue for genre subjects more generally. 'Blind Man's Bluff ' first hung in Carlton House alongside works by Dutch seventeenth century artists.
