Nash, Paul (1889 – 1946) – Wooded Terrace.

Nash, Paul (1889 - 1946)
Wooded Terrace. Pencil and watercolour. 1937. Signed and dated. 22x15 inches. Framed: 32x25 inches.

£14,000

This large sheet is typical of Nash's watercolours of the 1930s. Although always rooted in place, these works attain to the other-worldly and frequently slip into Surrealism. Nash was fascinated by ancient sites and the idea of history and memory in landscape. His trees are always given a strange human-like quality, as if they are conscious witnesses to the scene.
