Van Abbe was born in the Netherlands but came to England as a young boy. He studied at the Central Schools and was the brother-in-law of Edmund Blampied. He was first and foremost a printmaker and illustrator. It is relatively rare to come across a print and related drawing, so it is opportune to be able to pair these two sheets together.
