Teracotta plate with coloured engobe. 1962. Signed, marked and numbered 'Edition originale de Jean Cocteau Atelier Madeline-Jolly 10/10'. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, signed by Marie-Madeleine Jolly and dated, 10/1/1962.
This is one of the design's Cocteau initially made for the open-air theatre at Cap d'Ail (begun 1958, finished 1962) and that he subsequently adapted into ceramics. Some of the pieces remained unique works, while some, such as this, were made into editions of 5 - 10.
