EXTRACT FROM THE ARTIST'S JOURNAL: The falls of the ancient Liris now Garigliano are certainly very handsome. As we were told a large portion of the rocks of the larger one had been carried away, which had changed & not improved its appearance, & that the body of water was less than usual. An old regal Palace or Castle crowns the height on a level with the falls now a paper manufactory; the nature of the rock is so friable & all vegetation of moss & weed, that nothing is wanting to please the eye. On this part of the town of Sola di Lina, distinguishable thro' the foliage appears to advantage! 13th April
