John Christian's fascinating Burlington article lays out the genesis of both the composition and complex subject matter of Burne Jones's large unfinished painting 'Tristan and Iseult'. He illustrates this sheet alongside a handful of other known studies and related drawings. Most significant is the large (1.2m!) drawing now at Torre Abbey. We encourage anyone interested to read the article (a copy can be emailed). It is a typically brilliant display of pictorial analysis married with breadth of academic knowledge.
