'Italian Alps'. Oil on panel. 1918. Signed, titled and dated verso. Painted while Carline was employed as a War Artist on the Italian front, this work forms part of a small group of studies of the landscape around Asiago that can be linked to his celebrated depictions of aerial combat, notably 'British Scouts Leaving Their Aerodrome on Patrol over the Asiago Plateau' (Imperial War Museum). Provenance: Collection of the artist; by descent to the artist's brother, Richard Carline; with the Leicester Galleries (1971); Private Collection, UK. Exhibited: The Leicester Galleries, 'The Carline Family', 1971, No.28. 11.5x15.5 inches. Framed: 14.5x18.5 inches.
