‘Baron [Wendy Baron] reports that Sickert drew a sketch of this picture [his oil of the same subject] in a letter to Miss Hudson and wrote to her: “I am deep in two divine coster girls – one with sunlight on her indoors. You know the trompe l’oeil hat all the coster girls wear here with a crown fitting the head inside and expanding out to immense proportions.
