Thomas Sandby started serving the Duke of Cumberland as a draughtsman in Scotland after The '45. When Cumberland was appointed Ranger of Windsor Great Park, Thomas's own lifelong association with Windsor began. He eventually rose to Deputy Ranger and made numerous drawings of the Park, in particular Virginia Water where he carried out building work as unofficial architect. A close comparison of this sheet with other works by the Sandbys in the Royal Collection confirms its identification as the work of Tho
