This wonderfully humorous sketch shows a group of artists holding palettes, brushes and drawing instruments fighting to climb aboard Pegasus, the symbol of divine inspiration. Their intended destination is the mountain in the distance which is presumably Helicon, where Pegasus created the Spring that became the source of poetic inspiration for the Muses. Ramberg was born in Hanover and was invited to Britain by George III. He studied at the R.A. but left in 1788, becoming court painter at Hanover in 1792.
