Campbell, Elizabeth (1783 - 1861)
'Girgenti 13th May 1825 ... Sicily' the 'Temple of Concord' and 'Temple of Juno'; Deaks and Mr Stroud on the path, Elizabeth Campbell and Nip taking the view and either Mr Walker or Mr Moor climbing in the foreground. Watercolour. Inscribed and dated, 1825. Provenance: An album of watercolours by Elizabeth Campbell. 8x11 inches.

“We retraced our course to the beautiful Temple of Concord, the largest and most perfect, and which, in part, owes its preservation to its having been a Christian Church, tho’ to effect this some walls were cut and some columns built up, which has injured the appearance a little of the interior. The staircases are left here, but I should suspect belonged to the Church rather than the Temple, tho’ they are said to have been used by the Priests in observing the flight of birds.”
