When Abbott and Holder moved to Museum Street in 1987 fine art conservation was added to the business. For over 30 years works on paper were conserved on site. Since the redevelopment of our premises into a modern gallery setting all conservation work is carried out off-site. We work closely with a small group of carefully selected conservators who we trust with our own stock as well as taking on private commissions.
Does My Artwork Need Conservation?
You may wish to seek advice if your artwork shows signs of:
- Foxing or brown spotting
- Tears or creases
- Discolouration
- Acid burn from old mounts
- Cockling or distortion
- Surface dirt
- Previous restoration
Our Role
Rather than simply referring clients elsewhere, we manage conservation projects from assessment through to completion, providing a single point of contact throughout the process.
We can:
- Assess condition
- Obtain quotations
- Liaise with conservators
- Oversee treatment
- Arrange framing and presentation
