Gurney, Richenda (1782 - 1855)
'Sketches by Richenda Cunningham at Torquay & its neighbourhood in April & May 1854, Vol.1.' 37 drawings and watercolour including views of Torquay (10), Teignmouth (4), Babbicombe (2), Watcombe (5), Ansteys Cove (3) , Paignton (1), Cockington( 2) Chelstone, (2) and eight others all inscribed and dated. A daughter of the Norwich banker and Quaker John Gurney she was a sister of Elizabeth Fry, sister-in-law of the Abolitionist Thomas Fowell-Buxton (MP for Weymouth until 1839) and wife of George Borrow's patron Rev. Francis Cunningham. She had drawing lessons from John Crome and Henry Bright and published 'The Architectural Antiquities of Great Britain' at the age of 27. 10.5x14.75 inches.
